(Update)
Hello All,
I wanted to provide you with an update on my dad’s ALS journey and express my heartfelt gratitude for your support thus far.
I am amazed to share that my dad has recently reached the one-year mark in his fight against ALS (October 13, 2023). It has been a challenging journey, but his strength and resilience continue to inspire us all. However, I wanted to let you know that the disease is progressing, and we are starting to notice some changes in his condition.
One of the most significant changes is in his voice, which is beginning to be affected by the disease. It’s difficult for him to speak clearly, and communication has become a daily struggle. Additionally, his breathing has been impacted, and he now requires the use of an oxygen tank. It’s a constant reminder of the challenges he faces, but despite it all, he remains positive and maintains his infectious smile.
As we navigate this difficult path, your continued support means the world to us. The funds raised through the GoFundMe have been instrumental in covering his medical expenses and ensuring he receives the specialized care he needs. Your generosity has provided us with some peace of mind during these trying times.
I kindly ask for your continued support in raising awareness about my dad’s GoFundMe page. Sharing this fundraiser with your network can help us reach a wider audience and make a greater impact. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us provide the care and support he needs to face ALS head-on.
Your support and encouragement provide comfort to our family and bring us one step closer to finding a cure for ALS.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing by us during this challenging journey. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated.
With sincere gratitude,
Samantha and Sabrina Blandon
Friends, Family, and Compassionate Strangers,
We come to you today with heavy hearts as we navigate a difficult chapter in the life of our dad Oscar Blandon (Papá to us). Our dad, a hardworking man who has always been there for others, now finds himself in need of our support.
Our dad was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, October 2022 given 1-5 years. ALS is a progressive rare neurological disease that affects motor neurons-those nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. Voluntary muscles are those we choose to move to produce movements like chewing, walking and talking. Unfortunately there is no cure for ALS, and it has rapidly taken a toll on his body. 1 year into his fight with ALS his condition has worsened and he now has entered the early stage of hospice care, where he will receive the comfort and specialized medical attention needed during this challenging time.
Throughout his life, our dad has been a shining example of compassion and generosity. He has tirelessly worked to provide for his family and has always been ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. It is now our turn to return the favor and offer him the care and support he deserves.
Hospice care comes with significant financial obligations. The cost of medical equipment, medications, and other necessary services has quickly become overwhelming for our family. Additionally, we want to start preparing for the future, including funeral and memorial arrangements. By proactively addressing these needs, we hope to alleviate the financial burden that our family may face in the coming months.
We humbly ask for your support in raising funds to ensure that our dad can continue to receive the best quality of care during his time in hospice and that we can provide him with a dignified farewell when the time comes. Your generous contributions will not only provide financial relief but will also lift a tremendous weight off our shoulders, allowing us to focus on cherishing the remaining time we have with him.
Our dad has always been there for us and for others, giving us his love and support. His kindness has touched the lives of many, including his friends, family, and even compassionate strangers. Now, we kindly ask if we can all come together and support him in his time of need. No donation is too small, and every contribution, whether it be monetary or through sharing this campaign, will make a significant impact on our ability to give our dad the care and support he deserves.
On behalf of our family, we cannot express enough gratitude for your kindness, generosity, and support during this challenging time. Your contributions will help us navigate the financial aspect of this journey and allow us to focus on providing our dad with love, care, and comfort.
With appreciation,
Samantha and Sabrina Blandon
