Let's help our beloved Fil!

 Our friend, fellow advocate, and brother Filipe de Sousa requires our compassionate care and support at this time. 

In March this year, Fil experienced a mental health episode while visiting & working for his family in Florida. This episode led to erratic behavior, which resulted in his arrest. One March morning, Fil’s life changed forever in less than an hour. Fil’s actions that day are hard to understand looking back; this doesn’t reflect who we know him to be. 

As a result of this incident, Fil has been in jail since his arrest. None of his mental health needs can be met or improved in his current condition. Fil’s health has been declining in prison, plus the stress of constantly moving from jail block to jail block, and the lack of care for his physical and mental needs, have all taken a toll on his mind and body. Fil even recently collapsed while in jail, resulting in a cracked skull and a severe concussion. 

In combination with his rough surroundings, Fil’s case has continued to be an uphill battle with little progress. Currently, his legal counsel fees, combined with the financial needs that will continue to arise as Fil’s case moves forward, are out of financial reach for him and his family. 

Fil’s closest friends and family see this as an opportunity for the community to come together. With respect for Fil’s privacy and dignity, we can support his future and believe in his right to proper care, advocacy, and healing.
