Mel’s Run for Suicide Prevention
I’m Melanie O’Cain and I created “Mel’s Run for Suicide Prevention”. I’m running a marathon on December 27 on the Burke Gilman Trail to raise $5000 for the King County Crisis Clinic and Teen Link for Suicide Prevention. To help them continue to provide much needed guideposts for those in the deepest, darkest pits of despair. We need to fund these organizations to help people see light when it’s needed most. Especially during COVID19 when so many face hopelessness.
Crisis Line:

I’d love a few friends and family to join me for a few miles or cheer me on at my scheduled breaks.
I’ll be running an 11 minute mile (or so) a comfortable pace

Let’s raise some money for people who need resources and support systems to get through this dark winter alive and for those who are coping with grief and loss due to suicide.
I imagined the mind and impulse of suicide and wrote this piece last night.
i landed in darkness
got lost
couldn’t find my way out
the blind maze of life
too much
i couldn’t see
myopia took over
my unconscious dive
into the abyss
an out of control
terror filled
free fall
the weight increased
as i lost hope
i felt pain filled
numbness
as the forgotten
sensation
of light
called
through blackness
freedom escape
a chance to be
free and still
a moment
a flash
it’s done
relief
rest
peaceful
for me
i couldn’t see
Always remember you matter. Your love matters. Express your love.
Thank You
