Maria Mercedes Quintero has been battling an aggressive Fusarium fungal infection in her left eye since early November as it has caused her severe pain, discomfort, and altering her life. She has been very strong and patient throughout this ordeal but we have been told that we may still have a long road ahead of us. She had a cornea transplant on December 8th to not only clean the eye of infection but also provide her eye a chance of surviving.
In the meantime her family has been driving her to the Medical Center nearly everyday to be seen by the Baylor Cornea Specialist at the Texas Medical Center to assess her eye of infection and healing. For over a month multiple strong antibiotic eye drops and injections have been administered to her to fight the fungus on a daily and hourly basis around the clock. Each eye drop and syringe medication is not covered by her insurance as they are produced by local compounding pharmacies and range between $120-$200 each. Maria Mercedes and the Quintero family would like to thank everyone who has prayed and who has assisted in any way that they been able to the last few weeks.
