Let's help our friend Rob Turley as he recovers.

Donation protected
Hello and thank you for considering this fundraiser for our dear friend, Rob Turley. On June 8th, 2023 on his way back to his campsite, Rob was involved in a single motorcycle accident that would change his life forever. The bike launched him over 20 feet in the air according to a witness. He has suffered multiple broken and/or shattered bones in his back and legs, (tib/fib and femur). He had to endure a "nail" inserted through the outside of his left leg so they could put him in traction to pull the femur back, in preparation for the first of many surgeries that he'll need to have. The surgeon placed a titanium rod and four screws in his left femur and he will need a second titanium rod and screws in his right tibia when the swelling goes down.
Due to the amount of swelling during the 1st surgery, the doctors had to cut a large football shaped incision in his left thigh which gets cleaned and suctioned out 3 days a week, until they can do a skin graft to close the wound. This procedure is extremely painful despite being medicated ahead of time. If that sounds horrific, it is. These are just to name a few of the physical challenges he's faced with, not to mention the toll this takes mentally and emotionally. His fiance' Jodi has been by his side from the beginning and will continue to care for him until they both get through this. That's true love.
So many concerned friends and family have asked what they can do to help which is why this fundraiser was created.
If you'd like to be a blessing to Rob, to relieve some of the financial burdens
he'll be faced with for the next, possibly 12 months of recovery, please donate ANY amount you can. Every penny will be greatly appreciated and will go straight to Rob. The bills will still come due but he won't be able to return to work for quite a while. He will remain hospitalized until the doctors decide that he is ready to move to a rehab facility where he will have to live for several months. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

On behalf of Rob and Jodi, Thank you all so very much!

UPDATE June 26, 2023 from Jodi:
Today is day 18 here in the hospital. I'll stay as long as they will allow. They have been very welcoming, even encouraging for me to stay here. What an amazing staff here!

We were told Rob is slated for his second surgery Thursday (June 29) around 8:00 a.m. This surgery will be on his right shin/ankle putting in a rod and screws and a plate if needed. The ex-fix will not be on his shin and foot any longer!
Then we wait for the next surgery for the skin graft, we don't know when yet.
Once both surgeries are over, and he is able, he will move to a rehab facility for several months. We are not sure when or where yet.
Thank you for all of your texts, comments and prayers! All are so appreciated and encouraging.
For those asking, there is now a Go Fund Me started by friends.

UPDATE from Jodi 6/29/2023:

Rob is out of surgery. It was a 5 hours surgery and all went really well. He has a plate and screws on his left fibula and a rod and screws on his left tibia. He is in recovery.
The next surgery is planned for July 7th. A skin graft on the fasciotomy on his left thigh.
Thank you, everyone, for your outpouring of prayer. Thank you much!

Update 7/8/2023

Rob had his 3rd surgery yesterday to close the large open wound on his left thigh with a skin graft. The doctor said he did exceptionally well and the skin graft looks fabulous!
So, that being said, a little change of scenery is in his future! He will be moved to a rehab facility this Wed or Thurs which will be much closer to home! This will make things easier on Jodi (his 24/7 nurse) who has to drive an hour and 15 minutes (on a good day) just to run home on occasion, and also make it easier for friends to schedule a visit.
Please keep Rob in your thoughts and prayers and if you can, please donate to his recovery. On behalf of Rob, Thank you all for your love and support through this long, painful, journey. ❤️

Update 7/15/2023 (from Jodi)

St. Joe's accepted Rob as a patient. GREAT NEWS!
Now we are waiting for insurance to approve it and see for how long they will approve him staying there. This is an acute therapy facility, that means intense therapy. Insurance may require a review every 7 days on progression. St. Joe's asked for a 3 week pre approval to begin with but it's rare insurance will approve that much time at once.
If Rob plateaus or can not do this intensive of a program they may recommend a subacute facility which would be a nursing home because it's less intensive. If all is approved, he could move Monday or Tuesday....
most likely Tuesday. Eventually, after 2-3 weeks in therapy, I may have to get a chair that he can ride on up the stairs. A rail attaches to the wall and he sits on the chair to go up or down the stairs. That is runs between $2,700-3,000. Soooo glad we have the go fund me! We already ordered a lift chair/recliner that will be delivered to my house. Things we need to get him home approval and not go into a nursing home.
So that's the update for today. Day 37! Woot Woot!

Update 7/22/2023:

Rob has been improving greatly since being admitted to the rehab facility in Elgin. Jodi has been sharing videos of some of his progress on her Facebook "walk and talks." He has been given a discharge date of August 2nd!!! The prayers are working so please keep it up! Rob told me he was feeling a little down one day but he mentioned that when everyone kept sending messages that they were praying for him, it made a world of difference. That being said, feel free to send a message of encouragement to him. He enjoys reading the messages and it really does help to know your friends and family are thinking about you.
Once again, THANK YOU for all of your love, support, and donations!

UPDATE 08/15/2023
Rob came home from the rehab facility on August 2nd and despite having to use several pieces of specialty equipment to do ordinary things like take a shower, pull up his socks, climb into bed, etc he has been managing to get around pretty well. A couple of photos were added below so you can see the stair lift, transfer board and his seated walker that helps in his daily routine. This site doesn’t display “portrait” oriented photos very well but I think you can get the idea.

Rob’s been very busy with his Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, and nurse visits at home, as well as doctor appointments and turning 60 this past Saturday! Yesterday he was able to walk for the first time since the accident. It was slow, painful and very tiring but what an accomplishment!
This Go Fund Me has been a huge help in purchasing the necessary medical equipment he’s needed for his at home care. We are well over half way to our goal but we still have a ways to go. If you can help in any amount, your support and donations will be very much appreciated. Thank you all very much!
