Thomas Mapfumo Solidarity Fund
Donation protected
On Monday 23 September 2024 the Domboshava home belonging to exiled Zimbabwean music legend Thomas Mapfumo was burned down by a raging fire.
Speaking to Nehanda Radio at the time, Mapfumo said he has owned the home for over 20 years, almost the same period he has been in exile in the United States.
My name is Lance Guma, I am resident in the United Kingdom, and I am the Managing Editor of Nehanda Radio and Nehanda TV, an online platform providing news to Zimbabweans at home and in the diaspora.
Along with other friends of Thomas Mapfumo and some of his loyal fans, with his permission and that of his family, we have come together and decided to rally around this national treasure and give back for all his contributions to our country over the years.
Not only has he dedicated 63 years of his life to composing and performing Chimurenga music but he has fearlessly stood behind the people of Zimbabwe through thick and thin.
Builders in Zimbabwe who have looked at the cost of rebuilding his home have given us a quotation of USD$6178 to complete the work.
This will cover IBR Sheets, Ridges, SAFE top screws, Timber, Wire Nails, Asbestos Fascia Boards, Clout Nails, Transport and Logistics, and Labour.
We have rounded the total figure required to US$7000 to help cover any other unbudgeted expenses that may arise in the course of the rebuild.
The money raised will be given directly to Thomas Mapfumo who is resident in the United States and he along with his family will ensure the work is done.
We would like to thank everyone who will contribute to this fundraising campaign and say in advance, May God Bless You.
