Let's help Sheena to get back on her feet

Sheena Charles is a single mom, a youth leader and youth worker from Stanley Mission, a remote Woodland Cree community that is part of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band in northern Saskatchewan. Sheena loves the work that she does and is loved by the youth in her community. Throughout the pandemic, Sheena ran online activities for her community including the viral online jigging competitions with her sister. Sheena is also a Preparing Our Home leader, a program that focuses on emergency preparedness in Indigenous communities. Over the past few years, Sheena has been teaching the youth in Stanley Mission about emergency preparedness, traditional food preparation, First Aid, community asset mapping, evacuations, and so much more (all of this accompanied by delicious meals cooked by Sheena and her team). Sheena is respected for her hard work and love for the youth and her community.
Sheena was diagnosed with Myasthenia gravis, a rare long-term autoimmune condition that causes muscle weakness. After several bouts of myasthenic crisis (a life-threatening complication that causes muscle weakness to a point where you can't get air in and out of your lungs), Shenna is now in a hospital. Sheena’s family have to drive hours one-way while she is in the hospital.
Living with a rare condition in a remote northern reserve is tremendously challenging. Being a single mom with a rare unpredictable condition is tremendously challenging. Sheena’s biggest wish in life is to go back to work. Let’s support Sheena to help her recover and get back to the youth that she loves so much. This fundraiser will be used to help her and her family with meals and fuel costs as she recovers.
