Let's Help Tahnia Fight Lymphoma!

Dear friends, family, and caring individuals,

Lara, Natasha, and I are starting this gofundme to help our dear friend Tahnia kick lymphoma’s butt. At only 29 years old, Tahnia faces an unexpected and challenging journey, having recently been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Yet, amid the uncertainties, Tahnia approaches her 8-month leave for chemotherapy and recovery period with unwavering hope and resilience. Before you choose to donate, here’s a bit more about our gal.

Tahnia Mark was born and raised in Santa Barbara. She enjoyed the Junior Lifeguards program and played water polo for SBWPC and Dos Pueblos High School. She’s traveled the world, and has found her way back to SB as a devoted biology and math teacher at La Cuesta Continuation High School.

Tahnia's dedication to her students extends beyond the classroom. Within the walls of La Cuesta, she created an after-school puzzle club that became a haven for a group of teenagers seeking connection and understanding. Through puzzles and heartfelt conversations, she fostered a nurturing environment where her students could not only grow academically but also thrive emotionally.

Beyond the emotional and physical trials, Santa Barbara's high cost of living means that many educators, like Tahnia, must make sacrifices to continue their vital work. The added strain of medical expenses, and significant loss of income only deepens her financial challenges. Moreover, the California Education Code's "differential pay" requirement demands that Tahnia pay for her own substitute during her leave, leaving her with extremely limited income during this critical time.
