Let's help Thao on his road to recovery

To know Thao is to love him. Whether he's cooking an incredible meal, giving one of his famous hugs or helping out a friend, he is one of a kind.

Today, I am writing to share a medical update on Thao and share how friends and loved ones can support him through his recovery.

On Monday September 18th, Thao felt severe pressure in his head come on during a presentation to the Hennepin County Board. In true Thao fashion, he finished the presentation and then realized what he was feeling was serious. Thanks to several concerned colleagues, Thao was rushed to the hospital where they determined that he had subarachnoid hemorrhage (significant bleeding on both sides of his brain).

The medical staff was prepared to conduct invasive procedures to remove the blood; however, his body started to heal itself. The bleeding stopped and the body started the naturally absorb the blood. This was a miraculous turn of events that, along with Thao’s swift arrival at the hospital, spared him from any physical or cognitive impairment.

After eight nights at the hospital, including two in the ICU, Thao is back at home with his beloved Jessica. While tests continue to indicate that the bleeding has stopped, Thao isn’t out of the woods. He is considered high risk for strokes and seizures for the next three weeks and he will continue to endure headaches for the next two months while his brain heals.

Thao will be on disability from work for the next several months and Jessica will be home with him as his caretaker and uber driver – and making sure he keeps his chill and avoids stress. The events of the last ten days have been a whirlwind and Thao and Jessica are still processing all that’s happened and their new reality. This is where their village comes in.

Together, we can make a significant difference in Thao and Jessica’s life. Our goal is to raise funds to alleviate the financial strain caused by medical expenses and missed work so they can focus on what truly matters: healing and gaining strength.
