Let’s Help The Mackereth Family

Donation protected
The Mackereth family is no stranger to hospitals and caring for a child with a disability, as their daughter Lena was born with Cerebral Palsy. Over the years Lena has had countless surgeries, medical treatments and specialist appointments in Vancouver. I can only imagine this would put a lot of financial stress on a family. Lena is now 12 and it has become extremely difficult to lift her in and out of her wheelchair. The family has recently had to invested in a wheelchair lift for Lena, currently they have half the lift and in the process of getting the other half. The total cost for this new lift will be upwards of 20k.

As difficult as it must be to care for a child with a disability, things for Crystal and Dave have gotten even more challenging. Just before Christmas their 7 year old son, Tyson had his first Seizure and shortly after was diagnosed with Focal Cortical Dysplasia. This is a form of epilepsy. His symptoms came on very suddenly and their world flipped upside down.

When you think of epilepsy you automatically think of “shaking seizures”. Tyson’s seizures are very different. He feels weak and can’t walk or is unsteady, sometimes he can’t talk, he feels shakey, his body aches and he gets dizzy. He gets painful electric shocks running up is body. If these don’t sound frightening enough, he’s now experiencing complete memory loss, not knowing who mom or dad are, not recognizing his home or where he is. You can only imagine how frightening this would be for a young 7 year old boy. As a parent it would be absolutely terrifying not being able to comfort your baby when they are so scared and they think you’re a stranger. Doctors are continuing to try different medications to find something that will help prevent his seizures or at least limit the amount of seizures he’s having. Currently they haven’t found one that is helping and Tyson is having upwards of 10 seizures a week. They have taken multiple ambulance rides and spent countless hours in the ER. Tyson is currently being medivac to Vancouver so he can see a Specialist and hopefully get some answers and proper medication. The Neurologist has said it’s likely Tyson will need to have brain surgery to get the seizures to stop. This will be the first of many trips to Vancouver for them.

The goal is to raise enough money to help Crystal, Dave, Lena and Tyson with medical expenses that have and will accumulate over these next few months. The financial burden can be very stressful, Crystal and Dave need to focus 100% of their energy on their children’s health.

If you can please help this beautiful family! Every little bit adds up and I know they would be forever grateful.
