Let’s help Theo!

Hi. My name is Chen. I am a friend of the family, Lara and Robert are my good friends from college. Back story from the couple, they were married 2017 and has been trying to build a beautiful family of their own. Lara has had several miscarriages before finally having Theo, he brought such happiness not only to his parents but to everyone around him, a beautiful boy with such great personality even as a baby. Months after he was born, his dad noticed that his head would drop for seconds and that is something not normal for him. They took him out to be checked by a doctor and was diagnosed with a rare seizure disorder. He was sent home with medications that he has to take for the rest of his life to help with his seizures and has to go to a therapies such as speech, occupational and physical therapy to help with his development on top of frequent hospital visits to check his progress. Just a couple months ago, his seizures has gotten severe. It became longer and more frequent. After all the tests that were done, his physicians suggested for him to have a brain surgery (R hemispherectomy). It is a rare surgery where half of the brain is either removed or disconnected from the other half. It’s performed on children and adults who have seizures that don’t respond to medicine. he will be in the ICU for two weeks to be monitored post surgery and two more weeks inpatient to see his progress. After that. He will be staying for 3-4 more weeks for rehab. Upon research i found out that children who goes through this kind of surgery will come out as a totally different child. All that he learned throughout the years will be gone and he will have to relearn everything. On top of that are the risk of him losing his left vision and left hand paralysis. it may take years for him to recover and finally be a normal child again. That is with the hopes of a total recovery.

my heart goes to the parents of this child. No parent wanted to see their child go through such suffering. It breaks my heart to see that a child of his age has to go through all of this and can’t even communicate his feelings and needs.

I, together with my other friends who knows and loves this family are reaching out to your kind hearts to help this family get through this challenge by giving any amount that would help them with their medical and daily expenses as they go through this crucial process of getting Theo back to his recovery.
