Let's keep The Compassion Hub Running !
Donation protected
Addictions and Mental Health Advocates has secured a building at 133 Gore St. called The Compassion Hub. This will be the initial step in opening a larger homeless shelter. We have a warming/cooling station with gravity chairs and blankets for those without shelter. We are aiming to offer shelter 24 hours a day if need be. Sadly homelessness has grown by 250 % in the last three years in Sault Ste Marie. Opening a shelter is a long, arduous process, and we believe that something needs to be done immediately to assist our vulnerable population. There are still homeless people wandering the streets of Sault Ste Marie in this unforgiving cold winter. These are our children, spouses, siblings and friends with addiction and mental health issues. Gore Street is the very core of addiction, mental health and homelessness. While we are working with agencies to secure funding to open a larger shelter, we must attend to the needs that are so glaringly needed today – shelter, support, food, clothing and hygiene products, just to name a few.
We are also aiming to offer so much more. Shelter and food are the most basic needs and once those needs are met, we would like to offer peer support, housing assistance, job search assistance, like skills budgeting, tax assistance, laundry facilities, etc. Unsheltered individuals live without the means to acquire the basic human comforts of warmth, health, safety and cleanliness. Please help us to give them a hand up. A person is a person, no matter where they live.
Please help us to continue to offer and expand our services to the vulnerable. Their situation is not their character.
Monetary donations will help with future rent. We do plan on doing fundraising events once Covid restrictions allow us to. Monetary donations also allow us the flexibility to stock up on whatever food or sundries that are needed. This is an ever-shifting list and donations enable us to buy precisely what we need.
Thank you so much for your support in the past. Please know that we will be here for you and your loved ones in the future.
