Unless we work together, Therapy For Black Men is shutting their doors and THOUSANDS of Black men and boys around the United States are going to be left without lifesaving mental healthcare...
My name is Lisa Sugarman and I'm a Boston-based Mental Health Advocate, 3x survivor of suicide loss, a Crisis Counselor with The Trevor Project, a Storyteller with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), an author, a nationally syndicated columnist, and a champion of accessible, affordable mental health care for everyone.
As someone who has dedicated my time and energy to ensuring that everyone can find and access mental health support and resources when they need them, I couldn't ignore a recent post that came across my feed from Therapy For Black Men.org, the online directory aimed at improving the mental health and wellbeing of Black men and boys across the United States, announcing that that they're going to have to close their doors due to a lack of funding.
BECAUSE THAT JUST CAN'T HAPPEN.
Over the past two years, Therapy for Black Men has sponsored over $110,000 worth of FREE therapy sessions, providing a much-needed lifeline to Black men and boys who may not have otherwise had access to mental healthcare. And we need to make sure they can continue their powerful work.
Since 2018, Therapy for Black Men has been providing proactive, multiculturally competent care to men and boys of color, creating safe spaces where Black men and boys are loved and cared for and not treated as casualties.
At Therapy For Black Men, they believe that mental health is JUST as important as physical health, which is why they're dedicated to making mental healthcare accessible to the men and boys who need it most. And I believe the same.
That's why I started this GoFundMe page.
I believe in the power of community to have the ability to make a measurable impact on the world, so I'm using my voice to spread the word that this invaluable organization will shut down without our help. Together, though, we can make a difference.
Right now, there are over 4,500 Black men and boys currently on the waitlist at Therapy for Black Men who won't be able to receive therapy if Therapy for Black Men is forced to close their doors.
And this is why Therapy For Black Men exists—as a much-needed resource that provides a safe and supportive space for black men and boys to share their experiences, emotions, and struggles without any judgment. It is a platform that encourages healing and growth and helps them overcome the challenges they face in their daily lives.
They need to raise $350,000 to sustain their platform ensure that Black men and boys can continue to receive the lifesaving therapy that Therapy for Black Men can provide.
So please, donate what you can to help Therapy for Black Men continue their mission of breaking the stigma that asking for help is a weakness. And please SHARE THIS GO FUND ME campaign with your community so that, together, we can help Black men and boys get the mental healthcare they deserve.
