Let's make A (Bad) Night at the Movies BIGGER and BADDER!!!

Ottawa Bad Movie Nights is a community group that brings together cinema enthusiasts of all stripes. Our common bond: the enjoyment of cult and offbeat movies. Since 2018, we’ve gathered bi-monthly (or more!) to watch a variety of curated programmes. Many laughs and great times have followed, to the tune of over 300 events.

Our flagship series, A (Bad) Night at the Movies, is held in the Auditorium of the Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library. Though it’s run in partnership with the OPL, all costs associated with running the series are covered by Ottawa Bad Movie Nights. This includes some of the movie rentals, the purchase of media, promotion, …etc.

This season could very well be our last: the Main Branch will be closing and we have no word on a future home for our events. In light of this, we have decided to pull out all of the stops, licensing a few must-sees that we’ve always wanted to play, setting up pre-shows and other add-ons. Hey, if we’re going we might as well go out BIG.

That means money.

For the past seven years we’ve always paid right out of our pocket, without any financial assistance. However, this season is going to be far more expensive than usual. While it’s a product of our ambition, please consider that we’ll be providing original, fun, dynamic and, above all, FREE events to Ottawa’s community for yet another year.

*A (Bad) Night at the Movies consists of more than just movies – the programmes also include b-movie trailers, short films, cartoons, and other odd bits. These take weeks of intensive work to put together, and that’s not accounting for all of the promotion and the running of the events themselves.

Further to this, while A (Bad) Night at the Movies is strictly held on the first Wednesday of every month, we also run online events and bonus live shows. All told, it could be a full-time gig - but we’re just doing it for fun, for gits and shiggles.
