Let's Make a Lotta Magic for Sharon Pendana!

Like many of you, I have a Sharon Pendana story. Well, I have countless stories. We have a thirty-year friendship. We have worked together. Played together. Laughed together and cried together. One of my love names for her is "Britannica" because she is always researching something, a habit that saved her life 25 years ago when she entered an Emergency Room and stated, “I think I may have a subarachnoid hemorrhage,” ten years ago when a certain knowing that the “normal breast changes” she experienced, were, in fact, cancer, and the recent sense that something was off.

Sharon has been off the scene of engaging the arts, friends, and culture for a couple of months now–not of her own volition but due to a catastrophic health challenge. One day she was living her life going about her business. The next she felt a “strangely vague something.” That something was an ischemic stroke in her left brain. Sharon is so keenly aware of herself, she suspected that it was happening and took herself to the hospital. And, thank God, she survived. But not without a serious uphill climb to restore full use of her right leg, arm and dominant hand.

If you know Sharon you know that it isn’t her nature to share what I just did. She is an extremely private woman. She is grateful for the excellent care she received in both the hospital and inpatient rehab facility covered by her insurance. But she needs an additional twelve weeks of physical and occupational therapy on an outpatient basis, which is not covered by her insurance. After nearly two months of hospitalization that included ten days in Covid isolation and a projected three months of more treatment, her workload is greatly diminished.

And so, will you think kindly of her and share what you can to help her heal? A funding goal of $15,000 will help defray therapy, acupuncture, and adaptive devices or equipment costs. Any amount that you can give will be appreciated, as will your prayers and well wishes.

Let’s make this a time when Lotta Magic–as many of you know her thanks to her social handle–ignites the generosity in each of us to create a magical, abundant moment for her on this leg of her journey.

We thank you in advance.

Love,
Harriette
