Let’s move the rescue forward!

Hi, my name is Michele. Over 10 years ago, my family got our first pet bird. She was a little budgie named Pixie. As the years went on, we added another bird here and there. Sometimes those birds were added when we came across one that we fell in love with, sometimes they were added when people that we knew asked us to take in their bird. The deeper and deeper we got into birds, we started to realize how many birds out there needed help.
We continued to open our home to birds in need learning along the way so many things about how to care for them, the struggles they go through, and the lack of education to bird owners out there.
A few years back, we started referring to ourselves as a bird rescue. Not too long after we started declaring ourselves a bird rescue we knew we needed to set ourselves apart from everyone else that was posing as a bird rescue that didn’t have the right intentions, so we filed to become a 501 C3 nonprofit. With a modest social media following I’ve been able to reach out to so many of you over the years for help monetarily to help take care of some of these birds. Whether it be for medical reasons, cages, toys, and so much more. All of you have been instrumental in helping me to be where I am today. Because of all of you, I am living my dream of helping my community with birds that need homes, helping them to find new homes, allowing some of these birds to stay in our sanctuary, and most of all helping to spread as much education as we can about our feathered friends.
All these years I have done this out of my home. I’ve transformed my dining room into a bird rescue. I’ve outgrown that space and started transforming my garage into an additional area for birds. I’ve worked on insulating the space, adding heat, air and additional lighting to my garage. I’m currently out growing that space as well. I have no more room to grow in my home. I’m having to turn people away that would like to relinquish their birds to the rescue because I simply don’t have the room.
I will admit I do struggle finding the right homes for some of our birds in a timely manner because I don’t feel comfortable having potential adopters come to my home. For the safety of the birds in our care I don’t like to let people know where I live. So if I am picking up a bird or if I am dropping off a bird I’m doing that offsite. Let’s be honest that’s not the best way to find a good home for a bird. The potential adopter should be able to come to the rescue, talk with me in person, spend time with our birds and try to make connections. I simply can’t offer that now.
I believe it is time to try and make the leap, one of the biggest leaps I’ll ever make… to move the rescue out of my home and into its own facility. Having the rescue outside of my home will open up so many new positive things for the rescue more opportunities for the rescue. There’s one problem I can’t do this without you, all of you. Together we have done so much over the years. Together we have helped so many birds. Together, we’ve tried to take on Petco and big chain stores. Together we’ve been on the news to bring awareness about Petco and other chains stores and share what our rescue does. I believe that if the rescue was in its own dedicated space it could offer so much more. We could have visitors, potential adopters could come in to meet birds, I could have volunteers, we could hold educational classes, offer boarding, have field trips for local schools and so much more.
$10,000 would roughly cover the first 6 months of rent and utilities.
Let’s take this leap together. You can donate here, I also have Venmo, PayPal, CashApp and Patreon. Every little bit helps!
