Let’s pull together for Janis McDowall

Hi, my name is Susie. I’ve set up this fundraiser for an amazing woman that is Janis McDowall.

Janis was rushed into hospital 4 weeks ago with symptoms of a stroke. It turns out she had a multitude of ‘mini stokes’ for weeks with no knowledge of them, except only that she just wasn’t feeling great. She also had another stroke that was severe enough for her to be hospitalized and monitored for several days.

If that wasn’t enough already, she has to manage it on top of her treatments she receives for her Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia every 6 weeks or so.

She’s also a cervical️ and ovarian cancer survivor.

As you can imagine she’s had it rough, not only medically, but emotionally and financially. She is unable to work at the moment due to the effects of the stroke and even though she is a strong Scottish woman, and fighting to get back to 100%, she obviously has her limitations.

I’m putting this together to reach out to the communities to see if we can all get together and help ease some of that burden for her. As she herself has done countless times for others.

Janis, originally from Scotland moved here when she was just a baby. Her parents James and Mamie lived at the infamous Lincoln Apartments, upon where many ex-pats from the UK decided to live.

Her Dad was one of the original Thistle Soccer Club founding members along with Jimmy Price, Billy Rock, Frank Henry and Frank Green just to name a few….

Her family has been well known in the Santa Monica and Venice communities for over 50 years.

Janis is one of the most generous and loving people I’ve ever met. She’s always first to rally people together for a good cause, wether that is making food for the annual Venice Surfathon community or buying birthday cakes and gifts for people.

Let’s not even talk about Christmas, her name should be Mrs. Clause for the amount of gifts she gives to people every year. She includes everyone for parties and celebrations. Be careful when you invite her to anything though, because she usually has a posse in tow

Even if you can only give the price of your Starbucks coffee, every penny counts.
