Let's rally and help Al Trundle

This fundraiser has been created by the Counseling Department at Santa Monica High School. We have had the pleasure of working with Al Trundle for 20+ years. He has worn many hats in our district -- Teacher, Counselor, Administrator, Coach, Athletic Director, and Mentor. Al has constantly been there for all his friends, family, and students and now he needs our help.

Al was placed on disability in 2020 due to health reasons involving treatments that wouldn't allow him to work. In August 2021, Al graciously returned to Samohi for one semester to cover an Advisor who was on maternity leave. It was a hard semester, to say the least; one that left Al in the hospital for 3 weeks following the end of the semester. Al was informed he would be earning substitute pay for his time working and SAMO which would allow him to keep his disability status.

Governor Newsom passed a declaration that retired teachers could return during Covid, without penalty. Knowing there is a limit to what he could earn while on disability, Al thought he was in the clear for being paid above his pay limit. This was not the case. Al recently found out that the pay he earned while substituting was more than anticipated and he was told he received over the allotted amount allowed to remain on disability. He now has to pay back the money he was overpaid to keep his health insurance which he desperately needs. Not only is he still in treatment for prior health issues, he recently fractured his leg in two places and is currently in a rehab center.

Because Al can't return to work full time, we are asking for your support in helping him pay the balance owed to keep his disability AND his insurance.

We love Al and miss working with him. Hundreds of people feel the same way. Let's rally and help out a man who would do anything for anyone!
