Let’s rally help around Nate Dorman and family!

Nate Dorman, as many of you know, is husband to Paula, papai (daddy) to Luara (2) and Noelle (5 mos), son (including being the 4th Gleason son!), brother, friend, and pastor, just to name a few of his roles!!

Nate began experiencing severe headaches right before the birth of Luara in February 2021. He was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a build up of fluid within the brain ventricles. His first brain surgery was performed just after his daughter’s birth.

He was healing well and feeling good until May 2021 when he rushed to the ER in pain once again, only to find he needed a second surgery to place a new VP shunt (a permanent device and drainage tubing) into his brain. Nate trusted in the Lord, as he does with everything, and accepted this new situation well. He could always be found playing with his daughter, walking with his wife, teaching at church, helping friends and neighbors, and of course eventually surfing with that signature yellow helmet!!

June 2022, Nate was once again rushed in for yet another brain surgery to revise the shunt system and settings. Three brain surgeries down and Nate, in God’s strength, rallied back to the needs of his family and daily life - always putting others first, teaching, leading, and helping.

New baby Noelle joined the Dorman crew in September 2022 and life was looking great. Once more, however, Nate started experiencing the severe headaches, nausea, etc. At the end of January 2023 he found his way back to the San Diego ER to meet his neurosurgeon for diagnostics. The fourth brain surgery ensued - another shunt revision. Each time Nate has to undergo these invasive brain surgeries, it is increasingly difficult to get back to “normal,” as he battles the debilitating headaches, pain, and nausea.

Four brain surgeries in just under two years - harrowing, stressful, frightening, and COSTLY!! Nate and Paula are still paying off their portion of the prior medical bills and are estimating the next bills to be stacking up against those soon. This is a very difficult position for them as they much prefer to be helping others as opposed to being the ones needing help! So let’s help them get back on their feet, surrounding them with love and tangible assistance.
