Watkins Drinkery is a small neighborhood spot located in South Philly owned by John Klein. It has been serving our local community faithfully since 2010, and it needs our help.
Watkins Drinkery has remained open while faithfully following CDC guidelines like distanced outdoor seating, mask wearing, and increased reliance on take-out orders, and it seemed like it might be able to survive. But when the latest ban on indoor dining in Philly went into effect, with no programs of any kind in place to ease the financial blow, Watkins Drinkery has been pushed to the edge of bankruptcy. An easing of these restrictions is likely months away, meanwhile mortgage payments, taxes, and utilities need to be paid to make sure Watkins can still open its doors when laws, weather, and the virus allow it.
Watkins Drinkery is an important landmark to a lot of people, and its closure would be a true loss for the East Passyunk Crossing neighborhood and South Philly as a whole.
That’s why I’m asking for your support to help keep Watkins open. If you are able to donate to this campaign, know that every cent will contribute to operating costs for Watkins Drinkery to keep them alive.
