NERD SQUAD is a STEM outreach organization founded by Cagney Coomer, a PhD candidate in Molecular Biology at the University of Kentucky. NERD SQUAD is dedicated to inspiring the next great minds by bringing to life STEM activities.
NERD SQUAD partners with elementary and middle schools in the Lexington, Kentucky area.
Our middle school girls STEM club provides a program for girls dedicated to something other than sports and the arts. It has a maximum capacity of 25 girls with a 25+ girl waiting list. We have little turn over. We show up from the second month of school until the last week.
Every week, year after year.
On any given day we might be planting trees, fixing cars, looking at zebrafish, cooking food, eating bugs, making perfume, looking under a microscope, working with students at the HBCU, writing in our lab notebooks, or doing yoga.
Our consistency allows us to build strong relationships that empower our students. This is our greatest asset.
Funds will be used for supplies, materials, snacks, and campus and other site visits.
