My sister Suzy is an RN In Minnesota and works two jobs while caring for her beloved animals. In late November, Suzy had emergency surgery for a ruptured diverticulum and had to spend 10 days in 2 different hospitals. To make matters more challenging, she contracted Covid-19 during her stay, and while her prognosis is good, her recovery time will require her to be out of work for at least 6 weeks. She will also need further reconstructive surgery in the next 6 to 8 months.
As many of you who know and love Suzy can attest, she is dedicated to her animals, which are like family. With these physical setbacks, she has been unable to care for her loved ones, and while I have been able to be with her to help with the necessary care, the financial blow has been overwhelming.
I have witnessed her care for her #1 priorities:
- 2 horses (rescued)
- 2 goats
- 3 cats (rescued)
- 2 ponies (rescued and with special needs)
- 1 dog
I so admire her kindness, gentleness, love and compassion for her “critters”, morning and evening, 365 days a year (plus whatever else they may need). Within a week after returning home from the hospital, her pony had emergency care for colic and her wee cat needed emergency care for stones in his urinary tract.
Meanwhile, her bills are mounting. I think Suzy goes above and beyond regular care - even while recovering from major surgery, she radiates a loving concern for her beloved animals, which often makes her forget her own needs. I am very proud of Suzy’s hard work and dedication and she deserves our help and care, especially at this time of year.
Lovingly, Marie ( Polivka) Anderson.
