UPDATE: 5-10-23-Matt was moved to the Blodgett Rehabilitation Hospital, his drain port and all IV's are out and he has an open food diet. He cannot drink thin liquids until his throat muscles are able to control the flow. He is able to stand and take small walks with assistance and is now able to move his left arm/hand. He is making great strides and as soon as the new doctors evaluate him we will update here with any new news. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as this will be a very long road to recovery. Love to you!
On Monday May 1st Matt (my brother in law) was found unconscious at work, he was rushed to Butterworth hospital by ambulance. Within the hour of arrival he was brought in for neuro surgery to repair a brain bleed they had found on his initial MRI/CAT scans, surgery lasted just over an hours time. The doctors confirmed after his successful surgery that he had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. The stroke has left him with limited mobility of his left side. He is conscious and alert and has full memory with the exception of bits and pieces of the day it happened. He is currently still in the ICU and they have limited the number of visitors to 2 at a time. Once they are able to control his pain and his brain surgery port removed he will be moved down to inpatent care. The doctors have said with lots of rehabilitation and therapy they are hopeful he will be able to walk again and also get full use of his left arm back.
This will be a long road to recovery for Matt, the doctors have warned Jess that this is a Marathon and not a sprint. He is very lucky to be alive after this type of stroke, the doctors are thrilled with his progress so far. Jess has been posting daily on hers/Matt's Facebook account so be sure to check there for updates.
With Matt being off work for an unknown amount of time they could use our support financially and emotional. This is a difficult and scary situation for their family and I'm hoping we can rally around them and show them that they have an amazing support system!
If anyone is taking a trip to see Matt please check with Jessica or Sandra to see if the kids can ride along to go see their dad with you to alleviate multiple trips/people going to the same place.
