This is something I thought I would never have to do, especially after Laura powered through her cancer treatment. Yet here we are.
As most of you know, my sister was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer September of 2022. It rocked our worlds but in true Laura fashion, she powered through like a champ. Never missing a day of work! Laura has made it nearly to end of her cancer journey (one more surgery to go) and is officially CANCER-FREE! While we thought we would be spending this year celebrating her good health, life threw another curve ball their way.
Over the weekend Laura's husband, Matt, started experiencing muscle weakness in his lower extremities. It got worse and worse and by Monday, he was unable to walk at all. A trip to ER has turned into a week+ stay in the hospital and an official diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
13 months after Laura's cancer diagnosis, this family is in for another uphill battle. To say it's unfair and has us all asking "WHY" is an understatement.
Last year when Laura got sick, Matt left his job at Publix after nearly 20 years with the company. He felt he needed a job with better hours, one where he would be home every evening with Laura and the girls. Now that Laura was "in the clear," he decided he would go back to Publix....last month. Which means he has no insurance, including short-term disability at this time.
Although they have savings, they had hoped to take the girls on some much needed vacations and do things as a family this year after everything they have gone through. So I'm doing what I never thought I would do, I'm asking our village to help.
You've all been so amazing lifting Laura and Matt in your prayers this past year, and we felt it. Big time! So I'm asking you to continue to do this now. And although I know times are tough for a lot of people, if you have extra and would like to help support them financially, our entire family would be forever thankful.
