Let’s Beautify This!
Our mission is to find ways to create colorful displays of public art to enhance the look and character of Kenmore - our friendly city of 12,000+ located at the north end of Lake Washington.
How did this project get started?
You asked for it!
In April, 2015, Kenmore residents voted overwhelmingly for the silo-decoration project, the #1 idea to emerge from a city workshop, "For the Love of Kenmore".
Let's Beautify This! is now a community initiative to beautify the heart of Kenmore, WA and we need your help!
Our first project is ambitious.
From this workshop, a group of citizens started the “Hwy. 522 Beautification Projects", and the silos are our first endeavor. We foresee future projects along Hwy. 522 - the highway is our canvas! Do you have ideas for future projects? Post them on our Facebook page.
In 2017, with your support, original artwork will be attached to the three 80-foot silos at the CalPortland Co. concrete plant next to the Burke-Gilman Trail.
For many years, the silos have stood as drab industrial icons of Kenmore, seen by tens of thousands of people who daily drive, bike, and walk by a mostly colorless and unremarkable state highway.
When finished, next summer, the silos will be drab no more! Help make this happen!
Are donations TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?
Yes! We are supported by Arts of Kenmore, Inc, a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation formed in 1998 that produces the annual Kenmore Art Show.
Donations can be used as tax deductions. This is allowed because AOK will provide all financial services for our project, and because our goals are compatible with AOK’s own mission of promoting art in Kenmore. Thus, we can assure you that your donations will be handled according to the highest professional accounting standards.
How will the money be spent?
We estimate the project will cost $12,000.
This includes…
- manufacturing a large “Let’s Beautify This!” banner to announce and promote the silo project;
- printing high-res artwork onto one enormous wrap-around banner displaying the selected art, to appear on the front of the silos;
- compensating artists whose work is chosen for display; and;
- paying the standard 5% fee to GoFundMe, and contributing a 10% fee to Arts of Kenmore for financial management services. No other administrative costs will be charged.
Should we exceed our goal, the extra funds will be set aside for project #2.
“Let's Beautify This!” is a private, non-profit community project. We are independent. We receive no government funds. We have no major corporate underwriting. There is no paid staff.
