LEWIS’ LITERACY PROGRAM
Donation protected
Fragile X Syndrome is a genetic condition that causes a range of developmental problems including, but not limited to, learning disabilities, repetitive and unclear speech, delayed motor skills, cognitive impairment, poor eye contact and lack of focus. Meet Lewis, our son, who is 26 and has FXS. As a toddler Lewis had limited speech and had difficulty expressing himself which led us to a neurologist who, via a blood test, determined he had FXS. In his former years in the school system Lewis was in a special education curriculum. At an IEP (Individual Educational Program) an “educator” told us that Lewis was “unteachable,” something no parent would ever want to hear especially from someone in the school system. Over the years Rocio and I have tried to get him the help he needs to learn to read but to no avail until Susan T entered the picture. It’s been nothing less than a miracle. Lewis’ reading skills have vastly improved as well as his ability to articulate and speak in a meaningful and coherent way. We would like to have Susan come more often in order to accelerate his progress and we will match any donation we receive. We have set as a goal $4,000. On behalf of Lewis we would be very grateful for any contribution you can make.
Thank you for your consideration.
