Lexia's NICU journey!

As you all know, Bailey and Mike have dreamt of starting a family for many years now. Their hearts are so full that they could not wait to share their love and kindness with a child of their own.
This year, they were blessed when Lexia Sky was born at 37 weeks on February 11, 2022.
Lexia's journey has not been an easy one. This beautiful and precious child has been in the NICU since she was born.
When she was just a day old, Lexia had minor surgery by her belly button. The surgery went well! On February 14, when Lexia was just 3 days old, she was transported from the Regina General NICU to the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital in Saskatoon. In Saskatoon, the specialists diagnosed her with Macroglossia (an enlarged tongue). Macroglossia makes it difficult for Lexia to eat, breathe and sleep on her back, as her tongue obstructs her airway. Because of this, Lexia is tube fed and was placed on high-flow oxygen.
On March 7, Lexia was transported back to Regina, where she remained in the NICU. In Regina, she was making progress and was, at one point, even off of oxygen. She also started eating orally. This past week though, Lexia has run into some complications caused by her Macroglossia. She is back on high-flow oxygen and the oral feeds have stopped. Her tongue is obstructing her airway to the point that on March 28, 2022 it was decided Lexia would be transported back to Saskatoon for more specialized care.
Lexia is now also confirmed to have BWS. BWS is Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects a small number of babies born worldwide. Macroglossia is just one of the symptoms of BWS.
On March 29, 2022, it was decided that Lexia would again be transported, but this time to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton. No exact transport date has been set yet but this is expected to happen quickly within the next few days. Bailey and Mike are prepared to do whatever is necessary to help Lexia on her journey. In Edmonton, it is understood that Lexia will undergo surgery to reduce the size of her tongue. This surgery will make both eating and breathing easier for her.
We all want what they want, which is to be able to bring this precious little beauty home to Regina.
Both Bailey and Mike are truly amazing and fantastic people, and they are becoming the best parents that little Lexia could ask for.
Bailey and Mike are two of the most selfless, caring and loving people. The goal of this Go-Fund Me is to help ease the financial burdens they face so they can focus on bringing Lexia home and truly starting their life together as a family of 3! All funds raised will help Bailey and Mike with the costs associated with being away from home. In Saskatoon, Bailey and Mike were blessed to be able to stay at the Ronald McDonald house (which does still come at a cost). However, there is no way to know what lies ahead in Edmonton.
Please let us know if you would rather donate directly to Bailey and Mike, and not through Go-Fund Me.
