Rebuild Leza's Stolen Retirement Funds

Today was supposed to be a day of joy and celebration. After over 20 years of dedication and hard work at Nike, my mom, Leza, officially announced her retirement to her team. We were overjoyed knowing she’d finally get the chance to enjoy the time off she so deeply deserves.

But our celebration was quickly overshadowed by devastating news. My mom, one of the most logical and cautious people I know, fell victim to an elaborate and highly manipulative scam.

Using fear and personal information they likely purchased online, scammers convinced her she was in contempt of court for allegedly missing federal jury duty. They fabricated an intricate lie, claiming an attempt had been made to serve her papers and that someone at her address had signed for them. They told her she needed to pay a substantial bond to avoid arrest and a 72-hour hold, all while promising they could help her resolve it without any issue.

They disguised their phone number as our local sheriff’s office, used official-sounding language, provided badge numbers, and even simulated the background noise of a police station. They kept her on the phone for over four hours, creating so much fear and pressure that she felt she had no choice but to comply.

In the end, these criminals robbed her of a significant portion of her retirement savings—the funds she worked tirelessly to build over decades and no avenue to get it back. This wasn’t just about money; they stole her sense of trust in herself and her own judgment.

My mom is one of the kindest, most giving people I know. Even when we were barely making ends meet growing up, she always found ways to help others in need. She’s too humble to ask for help, which is why I’m doing it for her.
