Garrett is a 12 year old boy living with autism and cancer. He is non verbal but uses pictures and sign language very well t...o communicate. He is very smart and can even be quite the social butterfly when he wants to be. He has a great sense of humor and has determination beyond anyone we have ever known. After having his eye removed in September of 2013, Garrett was diagnosed with retinoblastoma. He underwent 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 25 radiation treatments and in May 2014, was declared NED (No Evidence of Disease). On September 29, 2014 our happiness and confidence came to a screeching hault. The cancer was back and it was bad. With little to no options left, we struggled to come up with a plan. After a surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible we found that cancer cells had escaped and we had to try and get them. Even though we knew the chances of chemo working the second time around were slim, we opted to make the last offered attempt to save him. On June 4, 2015, Garrett had another scan that revealed the tumor had yet again returned. With no options left, we have walked away with our boy to make the most of the days we have left with him. We appreciate the prayers for our family as we navigate the difficult months ahead. (From Team Garrett Facebook Page)
