A Barrie family is facing the unthinkable, and they now need our help as a community.
In consultation with doctors, parents and his brothers, 19-year-old Liam Rothwell has made the heroic decision to stop treatment and come home from the hospital to be with his family. Naturally, his mother is leaving her job as a child care provider in order to spend every possible minute with her son. Liam has been battling Osteosarcoma which is the same cancer that took Terry Fox. Liam bravely faced the loss of his leg but sadly the cancer continued to spread to his lungs and now to his spine leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He needs 24/7 care and his mom needs to be able to be with him. Liam’s decision to discontinue treatment will allow him to share his remaining time without the side effects of the cancer treatment.
Like many young men, Liam dreamed of soaring as a commercial airline pilot. He joined the Air Cadets as soon as he was old enough. Through Air Cadets, Liam learned about planes and along with his family, Liam was able to provide community service during special events that took place all over Barrie. He and his brother Devin have special memories of their time spent with the Air Cadet family.
So as Liam’s teacher from Assikinack, I am asking for your financial help. None of us can imagine the emotional and financial burden this family is facing but we have the power to help. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. 100% of your donation will go directly to the family.
I sincerely thank you for your kindness.
