Lia´s Journey

Donation protected
Eight years ago, I was gifted one of the bests presents of my life, my dog Lia. She has been my most truthful company in each one of my life stages. Lia has always been a well-behaved dog, lovely, happy, and playful. She has been my best friend and strongest support since day one. Lia become my service dog animal when I began med school and she moved with me to Guadalajara MX, and Reno NV, unfortunately, due to her life circumstances we have been without each and other for almost 6 months now.

Since July 2021 I noticed that Lia was less active than usual. We went to multiple veterinarian appointments to check what could be happening with her. At the beginning of December 2021, she was diagnosed with dysplasia in both hips and osteoarthritis, a diagnosis that took us by surprise due to Lia’s age (considerably young) and healthy lifestyle.

Making a big effort we began her therapy treatments and palliative care to better her life situation and minimize the pain that was inhibiting Lia to live a normal life. To this date the possibility of undergoing surgery was unknown. Lia’s symptoms progressed significantly; the therapy results seem to be effective but not enough for her to recover from the diagnosis. On June 16, this year we went to another appointment in which Lia’s veterinarian reported that she needed emergency surgery due to the severity of her case and the appearance of an unusual appearance of the femoral head that biopsy was needed. As per veterinarian recommendation a “Femoral Head Ostectomy” (FHO) for both hips beginning with her right hip which is the one severely impacted and therapies due to the severe atrophy she has endured during the last months.

Lia’s recovery journey is just starting, and we are aware that challenges are coming within. She still needs to continue at-home treatments, numerous therapies, and recurrent follow-up visits to the veterinarian. My family and I have been struggling and keeping the process to us which has been extremely difficult. As you may know, animals care is often expensive and when you have a healthy pet you are not prepared for such unexpected expenses. Lately, I have been sharing Lia’s journey on my Instagram page and the support and interest from you guys have been positively overwhelming to us. I mainly ask for your kind wishes and prayers for Lia and her recovery journey. I am positive that any donation will contribute to the amount needed to pay for Lia’s surgery and treatments. I believe many of you would like to be part of Lia’s journey and I am extending the opportunity and opening my heart to you all to receive your donations and kind wishes.
As for right now, we have an outstanding balance of $3,375. This amount includes medication, injections, therapy treatments, veterinarian appointments, and half of her first FHO surgery. Please help share the link and spread the word! With every penny you are contributing to Lia’s recovery, she is a dog full of love and happiness that deserves to live her best life. Thank you.
