Life After the Lahaina Fire
Donation protected
My parents are sweet, caring, and proud. I can’t imagine being in my 70s and having my life changed completely in mere hours and not asking outwardly for help.
They’ve lived in Lahaina for the majority of their lives, and my younger brother attended elementary, middle and high school in Lahaina. As for me, although I attended school in town (Baldwin High in Wailuku), I will always have such fond memories of that beautiful city I’d frequent when visiting with my parents.
Daniel and Lynn Nakamura have given so much to me and my brother… and to the many cats they cared for. They would patiently drive to various locations in Lahaina to feed the feral cats with the goal to neuter/spay and release.
Losing their house filled with all their memories, clothes, and valuables, along with their car (they were able to drive down to the main road but needed to desert their vehicle to rush for safety behind the sea wall) was devastating.
How they could watch their Lahaina burning while praying for help when the fire forced them to tread the ocean for safety is beyond comprehension.
Any donations would be so very much appreciated. I am hoping they won’t need much while they try to rebuild their entire life from scratch as we pray that their insurance companies will honor their policies and come through in providing them a house and vehicle… but even if they do, it will take a very long time before that happens.
I know “thank you” will never suffice- it can not truly describe the gratitude we feel or wish to express to and for you. But all I can do is say, “Mahalo nui loa” (thank you very much) for your generosity and your aloha spirit.
With all my love and aloha,
