Life Celebration for Sharon Sockwell (Covid-19)

Donation protected

From the immediate family of Sharon Sockwell:

On Friday, April 17th, 2020 our beautiful matriarch  Sharon Sockwell received her wings at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY after putting up a valiant fight against Covid-19.  She was 66 years young.

A WONDERFUL WOMAN:

Sharon, affectionately known as “Big Ma” was a loving woman with a beautiful smile and very VIBRANT personality. Born in Brooklyn, NY, but primarily raised in Queens, Sharon was one of 6 siblings.  She would later mother 5 sons named Sean, Raheim, Aprende, Steven, and Matthew. Her son Raheim preceded her in death.  While residing in Queens, Sharon and her family were members of Bethany Baptist Church before moving back to Brooklyn in later years.  Sharon also worked for many years as an administrative assistant.

Sharon LOVED to cook, LOVED music, and ADORED spending time with her family, which was very important to her.

INSPIRING A COMMUNITY:

Sharon’s heartfelt passions were also deep-rooted in social justice, environmental causes, gardening, and combining the three to teach and empower our community youth.  Sharon was an active social advocate and beloved member of Phoenix Community Garden in Brooklyn, NY.  There she used her love of nature to not only enhance the environmental landscape of New York she also educated youth on the importance of healthy eating habits, as well as helped to provide fresh food to members of our community.

REMEMBERING SHARON'S LEGACY:

We, the family, are seeking donations to help with Sharon’s funeral expenses as she left with no life insurance or burial insurance.  Unfortunately, we will have to have a "Covid-19" funeral for her, which means a private burial with a very limited amount of immediate family members standing 6 feet apart from each other.  It is emotionally and financially difficult for us as a family trying to plan a life celebration for such a beloved woman, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. This is especially true under these pandemic circumstances. When this pandemic situation is over, we will hold a celebration dinner in her honor for all of her family, friends, and admirers to attend! However, for right now, we are doing everything possible to make sure Sharon has the beautiful memorial she deserves!   We are asking you to donate whatever you can financially sustain in her honor.

All donations to this campaign will be used towards the following:

Covid-19 Funeral Planning and Arrangement: 2290

Casket: 2500

Internment: 2375

Permits & Fees:  92

Total:  7257

In honor of Sharon Sockwell, we also ask if you can support your local community gardens, environmental organizations, and youth advocacy activities via volunteer work or in any positive way you see possible.  Sharon Sockwell was very passionate about these activities.  Your sincere actions would be an honorable tribute to her legacy.  They would also allow her love to continue to grow within our hearts and within our communities.  We are very thankful to have had her in our lives and we thank all of you for finding it in your heart to donate in her memory. Thank you so much in advance and be grateful for EVERY day with your family.

Sincerely,

The Harper-Sockwell Family

We Love You Mom!
