Life changing event-Auto Accident

Donation protected
In early October, I received a call that would change my life forever. All I remember hearing was that my husband had been airlifted to Rockford. They stated that my husband had been in a three car head on collision. A 93 year old elderly man had hit him. I felt as though I was having a heart attack due to the level of emotional trauma I was experiencing. All the way to the hospital I was in a state of shock.
When I arrived at the hospital they put me in a small private waiting room all by myself. All I could think about was they were going to tell me that my husband is going to die and how could I live without Nick, because we have spent our entire lives together. When the doctor came in to speak with me, he said that he needed to get him into surgery immediately to try and save his life. I asked him to just keep him alive and I will take care of the rest. That was the longest day and night.
I was told that it took the fire department over one hour to get him out of the severe wreckage and more time to get him airlifted out. The surgery took 9-10 hours with three teams of doctors working tirelessly on him. Each team would come out to update us. The last surgeon came out and said that he lived through it and he would be on a ventilator and that this would not be the last of his many surgeries.
Time can be a blessing and a curse when you are watching someone that you love fight for their life. They were right two weeks later, still on a ventilator he had to have his pelvis pinned. The accident broke everything from the waist down. I was just thankful to God that I still had him.
Nick has an extremely long recovery ahead of him and has more surgeries still to come. We are so thankful that he's no longer in a coma and that we can finally speak with him. Nick can’t walk currently. I was told that in the beginning that he might lose his entire left foot, however, he has had an Ex Fix on to hold everything in place along with the rods, pins, and 100’s staples from his neck down.
With this being said, he has a very long road ahead. Expenses are quickly mounting, without his income, and I have lost time from work and many new expenses this poses additional hardships and challenges for our family. He will have an extended period of time in a wheelchair and will need many home modifications to accommodate all of his new medical and therapeutic needs.
If you could help Nick and I with any amount of financial support we would be greatly appreciative. This would allow us some financial relief to care for the medical supplies, medicines, medical transports via ambulance, therapies, and home renovations due to his new condition. Any amount would help us and afford Nick this time to stop worrying daily about how we will make it and to focus on his continued healing. God spared Nick on that October day and we will turn a horrific tragedy in God’s true glory. Thank each of you for listening, loving and blessing our family. I pray that this will never happen to anyone that you love!
God’s many blessings and much love from Nick’s wife, Shannon
