Life changing surgery for Indigenous trans youth

My name is Morningstar Derosier and I am putting this gofundme together to help raise funds for something incredibly special. My nephew, Daniel Derosier, has an approaching gender affirming surgery (September 15th) and we are kindly asking for financial support.

Daniel is a member of Migisi Sahgaigan First Nation and just recently celebrated his 18th birthday. He is a kind, compassionate and intelligent human being. He is committed to his family, the land and his Anishinaabe culture. He has a heart of gold and spreads love into the world, wherever he goes. As an auntie, I feel so incredibly blessed to be part of his life - he’s an amazing, thoughtful and giving human and I am so excited to witness his journey through the world.

His mother, my sister, is a total powerhouse and has been kicking ass as a single mother of three boys. She handles any situation with an admirable amount of strength and grace and does everything in her power to ensure her boys are happy and taken care of. I’m proud of the family I come from - we’re rich in love but I’ll be honest, financially, our family doesn’t have much and we live very humbly. So, with Daniel’s fast-approaching surgery, this should be a time of excitement, but we are nervous about not having enough funds for this incredibly important moment.

A hotel room and food are provided for Daniel for three days - but the rest is not covered. That includes flights to and from Montreal for all three of us, money for food, and extra days in the hotel so we can get adjusted beforehand and so Daniel can spend a couple extra days recovering before traveling back to Thunder Bay. This all comes out to about $6000.
