Life Giving Surgery for Suzy

Suzy is a the sweetest little dog and needs surgery to continue her life.  She was injured, probably by a car, and needs bilateral pelvic surgery and surgery for her broken femur.  She was lying helplessly near the road,  unable to get herself to safety.  As my son and I gently lifted her with a towel into a box for transport, she never showed any sign of aggression, and gratefully accepted the help even though we were total strangers.  Suzy was in shock and breathing heavily.  My son rode beside her as we took her to the UF Vet clinic and he made the comment that 'she is a great dog'.  Once we arrived, the caring staff at the Vet clinic stabilized her and began running tests.  Suzy had no internal bleeding and she seemed otherwise healthy.  We thought for awhile that she would be ok.  But when the x-rays came back, the news wasn't good.  She had a fractured pelvis and a broken femur and the estimated cost for the surgeries, which for her are necessary, is $5000.  Suzy is only 2-4 years old and could have a nice long life ahead of her.  She is now in the care of the wonderful people at Low Rider Dachshund Rescue of Florida Inc.
