Life In The Wilderness (Album)

Back in 2013, Marilyn & I moved to Austin to start a brewery and plant a house church, both from scratch, both at the same time. (You don't have to be crazy, but it helps...)
I also write music. (A coping mechanism for all that craziness?)
Over the past 10 years, I've written a lot. Mostly we play for friends in our living room. This spring Marilyn & I finally went into the studio so we could share it with everyone. We've got 10 songs, all original, that have never been recorded before. I think it's some of our strongest work ever. But to get there we're going to need some help...
In the past, we've been limited by (lack of) time and budget. This time we've got the chance to do it right. We're working with some great local musicians: B Sterling (bass), Jimmy Milner (drums), Elaina Mosher (cello). And some old familiars too: me (guitar, vocals) and Marilyn (horn, backing vocals), with Rebekah Cryder Daniels (backing vocals). Plus we've got local legend Andre Moran to help steer the ship (engineering, production, and effervescent electric guitars). All told, it's a great team.
I think it's the best our music has ever sounded.
The album is called Life In The Wilderness, and here's the track list:
- 1. Life In The Wilderness
- 2. Home
- 3. The Lord Shall Reign
- 4. All I Need Is Thee
- 5. Great Things (Psalm 126)
- 6. Too Much
- 7. Long For Zion (Psalm 129)
- 8. How Much Deeper (The Complaint)
- 9. Sing To Me
- 10. Home (Reprise)
(Note: I'll be updating links to the tracks as we start to get them to a close-to-finished-and-ready-for-final-mixing state... expect to see updates every couple of weeks. None of this is final. But it'll give you an idea of where we're headed...)
At this point, basic tracking is complete (40+ hours of studio time). But there's still a ton of work remaining. We need to raise $10,000 to finish supplemental tracking, cover mixing and mastering, and help pay our musicians (these guys are pros!).
The album will be released on all the standard streaming platforms. But donors will get exclusive access to all sorts of extras: 1) high fidelity downloads, 2) a limited edition old-school-hard-copy CD (hey, they're making a comeback, and even if you don't have a CD player anymore, you're going to want to see the cover art and liner notes!). Plus, 3) I'd like to invite you into the creative process - backers will get early access (as we finish individual songs), so you can start listening sooner rather than later. I'll also be sharing lyrics, photos, and backstories behind these tunes. And hopefully, we'll be ready for a grand old release party, just in time for Christmas!
The past 10 years have been quite the journey. Now we'd like to share it with you. But first we've gotta finish the album! Maybe you can help us get there?
I'm Christian. We're the Sinners. And this is Life In The Wilderness...
