Hello my name is Lorraine Banton and here is my story,

Born on the 16th of October 1969 with a defunct kidney, which means one grew bigger than the other to compensate. At 18 years old I became ill and was told that the smaller kidney was not working, so in order to save my life I had the smaller Kidney removed which left me with one kidney.

At 25 years old I discovered that I became diabetic to which all the problems started, due to a relationship problem with my ex husband. I then started to eat more and started drinking heavy and ended up putting more and more weight on that ended up with me being 26 stones. After a wake up call I ended up loosing 11 stones in 7 years, but as time went on the one kidney I had started to deteriorate, to which in 2019 I was diagnosed with CKD (chronic kidney disease), and then nephrotic kidney syndrome. Then on two occasions between 2021 & 2022 I had my life saved on 2 occasions, by the two consultants and the staff at the kidney and dialysis unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire.

For the last 18 months I have been having dialysis three days a week for 4 hours a time but unfortunately in may 2023 due to being in a wheelchair for the last 20 months, and my mobility being really poor I was told that I am now on a downward spiral and therefor I might not have long left to live.

So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the consultants and the staff at the kidney and dialysis unit, and stoke Mandeville hospital for keeping me alive to this day, and for the amazing work they do.

So what better way to do it by starting up a go fund me page and raise much needed funds for the unit. All the funds will be used at this unit for purchasing special equipment that patient like myself need, such as needles, gauze, tape etc....
