Life saving heart surgery for Alberta Alexander

Dear family and friends,

On January 20th I heard the most shocking news of my life. I was told by my cardiologist that I had a severe heart condition that if left untreated, it could be terminal.

I had started my day as usual, reporting to my cooking job, which for those of you that know me, know the kitchen is my passion. I started seeing black spots and lost sensation in my limbs. Moments later, they found me passed out on the floor. I was rushed to the hospital and was admitted for a week. These last 5 months I’ve had to go in for many tests.

The medical term is Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and this condition prevents my heart from pumping enough oxygen to my bloodstream. My heart is too thick and does not allow blood to pump properly so it beats much faster than normal (sometimes 180 beats per minute, normal is 60-80 times per minute). I pass out, get dizzy spells, extreme shortness of breath, have high blood pressure..

There’s no cure through medications or treatments. The only way to improve the condition is to undergo open heart surgery.

I am currently working as much as I can, but I am living paycheck to paycheck. My goal with this fund is to raise enough money to pay for rent, utilities, food, medication and transportation to appointments while I recover. The surgeon has told me I would not be able to work for 3 months at the least, maybe more.

The surgery is my only lifeline as I’m currently just making enough money to pay my bills with nothing left, sometimes not even for my medication.
