Life Changing MS Treatment To Help Our Mum
Donation protected
Hi, we are trying to raise money for HSCT Treatment for our mum who suffers from MS (multiple sclerosis).
She is 55 years old and was diagnosed with the disease 7 years ago. Unfortunately she had to take early retirement from her dream job as a nurse, after the symtoms from MS progressed very quickly.
From the experience of her previous jobs working in mental heath and as an A&E nurse, she now works volunterary alongside her friend as a support worker for the MS Society in Fife.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). In MS , the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Unfortunately the symptoms that come with MS have progressed at a faster pace the past couple years which causes my mum to struggle to walk or carry out simple day to day tasks. Her mobility is majorly affected along with her vision, weakness in her muscles which can be worse on some days than others. Weekly physiotherapy is needed, daily medication, gym exercise to try strengthening her muscles and a mobility scooter to actually have a life outside the house.
This treatment will require her to be in Russia for 30 days. HSCT is a complex procedure that requires chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant similar to the one used by oncologists for some blood cancers. We appreciate it if you can donate or even just share this on social media. We really hope we can get her this treatment to better her life and hopefully slowdown/stop the progression of her Multiple Sclerosis.
Thank you for reading.
