Lifesaving cancer treatment & support for Malachi
My grandson, Malachi Davis, is 8 years old and was recently diagnosed with "choroid plexus carcinoma", a rare type of cancerous brain tumor that grew undetected and very large until it nearly took his life.
While visiting with family in Naples, FL, Malachi struggled with vomiting and headaches so intense that he was taken to the ER where a CT scan revealed a massive, life-threatening brain tumor and cysts the size of a softball. He was immediately airlifted to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, FL where it was determined that he needed emergency surgical intervention to remove the tumor and save his life. By the grace of God, after a grueling, “high-risk” 14-hour surgery, Malachi survived – and the deeply embedded tumor was completely removed. A miraculous accomplishment by the neurosurgeon and his team. Once the biopsy confirmed that the tumor was indeed malignant and unusual, respected oncologists and pathologists from Boston, St. Judes, and MD Anderson agreed Malachi needed exhaustive chemotherapy and focused radiation to significantly reduce his chances of developing future cancerous tumors.
The wonderful team at Nicklaus Children's Hospital organized a treatment plan that will require a total of 9 months of chemo and radiation. He will be hospitalized 6 to 7 days each month for 6 months of chemotherapy beginning July 1st combined with weekly outpatient visits to monitor his progress. Additionally, he will receive focused radiation for 6 more weeks of daily treatment. Our hope is that the chemo and radiation will improve his chances of long-term survival.
Malachi’s mother (my daughter, Vianca Davis), her husband (Drew Davis), and their other four children (ages 6-13) will need to relocate to Miami, FL to support Malachi during this difficult storm. They leave behind their wonderful community in Woodstock, GA where they were deeply vested and connected for 4 years.
The sudden, life-altering shift in my daughter's (and her family’s) circumstances has made it difficult for them to accept help during this crisis, but the reality is they are of course in great financial need. They love to serve. And for decades have poured their lives into serving their communities, neighbors, ministries, and local businesses. Their hope and faith in Jesus, and love for people, has impacted thousands. The incredible outpouring of love and support their family has received is a testament to the many lives they have touched.
My son-in-law, Drew Davis, is also an accomplished veteran who served 12 years in the United States Air Force as a Senior Intelligence Analyst. For the last 3 years, he was the co-owner of a marketing and film agency in Metro Atlanta that was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and forced to close. He was in the beginning stages of launching a new business venture and ministry before Malachi’s medical emergency. With limited savings to endure this monumental crisis, the family is facing increasing financial hardship.
My tender-hearted, handsome, well-mannered grandson, of which I am so proud, has an inner strength and faith that Jesus is going to heal him. First and foremost, we ask for your prayers! If God so moves you, they would appreciate any financial support you can provide to meet our goal of helping them successfully move to Miami and ease the day-to-day burden of provision for their large family. Although the needs are many, we are thankful that God has shown his grace in so many ways already.
We are so thankful for friends, family, and new friends that have joined us on this mission of hope and healing for Malachi and his family. They are ready to not only battle this disease but look forward to deeply connecting and serving the people of Miami in the process!
Please note that all gifts will go directly to the account of Malachi Davis and his mother and father as sole trustees.
