Lifesaving Help for an Afghan Family

Hi, my name is Wajeeha, and I’m fundraising to help my cousin Mohammad, his wife, and 9 children (oldest 24, youngest 1), who are currently hiding in the mountains and caves of Afghanistan. In August 2021, the Taliban took over Afghanistan and since, made it clear that those who assisted the U.S. military would have to turn themselves in to be executed. If they didn’t turn themselves in, their families would be killed. For years, Mohammad aided the American training forces and worked on free and fair democratic elections. He tried to escape, but with all the chaos & checkpoints, did not succeed. Mohammad was forced to leave his home when the Taliban searched for him repeatedly. They have questioned his neighbors, threatened to harm his children, ransacked his house, and recently threatened his extended family if they support him in any way. The Taliban have made it clear that he is a target.

The family is stuck in hiding with no way of obtaining food or supplies. My family has provided financial help for the last year, but is struggling to continue. He has a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) case pending in a system experiencing serious backlogs. I am asking for funds for his family's travel, visas, legal fees, food and supplies to survive until they can finally come to America. My family is working with an attorney who will track donations to this fund. Mohammad helped the U.S. military, supported a democratic Afghanistan, and did his best to ensure the safety and well-being of others. Now that he cannot even provide his family's next meal, I hope to come together as a community to help him and his family finally feel safe. Thank you in advance for your help. *Update 6/7/23: My family would like to update everyone on Mohammad’s current status. He was able to escape Afghanistan, but was forced to leave his wife and kids behind. However, they are out of caves and are safer now thanks to the support of those who gave to this fund as well as family, friends and colleagues. We are currently working to get his U.S Visa case approved, but his escape brings the family one step closer to safety! Mohammed and his family have shown incredible courage and will to survive. We continue to raise funds in order to support Mohammad while he strives to reunite his family safely outside of Afghanistan- a life they so deserve.
