Life-saving Liver Transplant Expenses

Donation protected
12 years ago, our family immigrated to Canada with high hopes and dreams for a new beginning and a promising future. This transition in our lives came with many challenges, and becoming accustomed to Canadian culture was a constant worry. However, with hard work and perseverance, my parents worked to accomplish their goals, and my sister and I followed in their footsteps. Mahmood’s (our father) primary goal was to obtain a professional Engineering designation, which he was able to accomplish in 2019, making all of his family proud.

Everything changed just over two years ago when the symptoms of Mahmood’s pre-existing liver condition, which he has been suffering from for many years, started to worsen. The autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) diseases he was diagnosed with suddenly attacked, resulting in his current critical condition. Despite our family’s unconditional support, his health continues to deteriorate day by day.

The hospital has become a second home to our father, whose routine consists of doctor visits, medical procedures, and daily doses of prescribed medicine. Despite these efforts to keep our father’s liver functioning, Mahmood’s long history with his debilitating disease further complicated his health, adding liver cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy to the list. If left untreated, cancer, impairments of vital organs, and even death are inevitable.

The pain and struggle of living with this disease has pushed our father’s physical and mental health to an all-time low. Our family is heartbroken to see our loved one suffer. Unfortunately, despite having done everything to speed up the process, the chances of receiving a transplant in Canada are frighteningly slim due to the shortage of livers and matching donors.

With no treatment in sight in Canada, we are forced to explore options outside the country. While this has given us hope, the travel and medical expenses to make this dream a reality will cost over $100,000. Though we are trying our best to arrange the expenses, the challenge is grand.

On behalf of my family, we are kindly asking you to help us raise $100,000. Little by little, through small donations, we can help our loving father receive a new liver, regain his health and functionality, and return to experiencing life with his loved ones.

Please help our fundraiser by donating or sharing Mahmood’s story. Your contributions will be appreciated and cherished for eternity. We will provide updates on his condition and hopeful journey to recovery. We thank you for your time and support!

FINAL UPDATE!
To our dearest supporters, friends, and families, we owe you the deepest gratitude and appreciation.

Today marks the 6-month anniversary of our father's liver transplant surgery. It has been a long journey for all of us, especially Mahmood. We have endured months of stress, pain, and tears, but having you on our side the entire time gave us much hope and optimism, and we truly couldn't have done it without you. We are extremely fortunate that he didn't experience any post-surgery complications, and his healing process has been nothing but successful.
Because of your contributions, empathy, and prayers, Mahmood has been gifted a second chance to live and be with us, his beloved family. Your contributions helped with a considerable amount of his medical expenses that would otherwise have been a hefty financial load on our family. You have made the impossible possible; you have revived our father and brought him the health that was once only an imagination. Our father is a living manifestation of your endless support and love. His presence is a daily reminder of every single person who stood alongside us and gave us hope during the most difficult period of our life.
As of today, we are closing this fundraiser page, for it has completed its purpose of allowing our father to regain his health and return to experiencing life with his loved ones. We sincerely thank you, and we are eternally grateful to you.

All the love,
Mahmood and Mahmood's family
