Medical Treatment for Claire Rossiter

Donation protected
Meet Claire Rossiter from Independence, KY . She is the six-year-old daughter of Aaron and Rebecca Rossiter.

Claire has faced medical challenges since before she was even born. Her primary diagnosis is a Venous Capillary Lymphatic Malformation, which basically means that her lymphatic and venous system formed abnormally, specifically in her right leg, thigh, buttocks, and pelvis.

She is prone to illnesses, infections, and blood clots, and has undergone multiple hospitalizations, procedures, and surgeries to address these problems throughout the years.

There is no cure for Claire’s condition, but Aaron and Rebecca just try to manage her symptoms and the resulting complications as they arise.

Some of Claire’s most major issues have included chronic cellulitis infections requiring IV antibiotics, a "debulking" surgery at age 3 to reduce the mass on her leg, a stroke at age 4 caused by blood clots from her leg, a heart surgery at age 4 to close the hole in her heart that led to the stroke, and now she is undergoing several procedures to close veins in her leg that cause the blood clots. She recently contracted a staph infection after her last surgery this past October 2018.

Most of these procedures have been done at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, but now Aaron and Rebecca are also having to travel to Boston Children’s Hospital to have some of the surgeries as well. She was just there in October and will need to go back in a few months again.

Currently, Aaron and Rebecca were very lucky to have a medical daycare in their area which staffed nurses equipped to handle Claire’s issues and daily care. In order for Claire to attend this medical daycare and allow Rebecca and Aaron to go back to work, Claire needed to qualify for social security disability. They underwent this lengthy process and qualified both medically and financially, and so Claire was able to attend Kidz Club, which gave her mom and dad some peace of mind.

Recently, however, social security completed another eligibility review and has informed the family that Claire no longer qualifies for these medical services. The social security office has demanded back-payment of over $12,500. As a typical working family of five, there is simply not the extra money to pay for all of Claire's current medical expenses (e.g., travel, food during hospital stays, etc.), and ALSO to pay the $12,500 back-payment that social security has demanded. Beginning in January, just one of Claire’s medications will cost $300 per month after insurance.

Please consider contributing to this important cause. Our goal is to raise $16,000.

That will be used to cover the following:

-- $12,500 to pay back the social security,
-- $1,000 to cover the October Boston Children's Hospital costs (flight, hotel, food)
-- $1,500 for one of the medications Claire needs for 2018 (Rapamycin)
-- $1,000 for the upcoming trip to Boston Children's again.

Total costs = $ 16,000

Thank you for your consideration. Any amount you give will be appreciated beyond measure. God bless you. If you have questions about this, you can email the organizer at [email redacted]. Aaron and Rebecca would also be happy to answer any questions about the treatment that you may have.

Love, Claire and Family
