Life-Saving Surgery for Julie Turner
Hello, This is my wife of 28 years, Julie. She is an outgoing, giving person that has been helping others one way or another most of her life. Whether it’s by working for her church or taking in a child in need of a more stable environment, she has been all about helping others; be it people or animals for as long as I have known her.
(Updated May 8th after surgery)
Julie was recently diagnosed with a spinal tumor between her shoulder blades that was threatening
to turn her into a paraplegic unless it was removed quickly. The recommendation of two
neurosurgeons was that the operation needed to be done within a week. The tumor was not
cancerous, thank god, but it was directly on her spinal cord and had compressed it down from a normal 10mm to 1mm (about the width of the doctor’s smallest scalpel). The doctor was surprised she was not already paralyzed.
Additionally, they found a brain tumor and though it's not cancerous or causing immediate harm, it will need to be monitored.
Needless to say, we are facing enormous costs: for the emergency room visit, the stay in ICU at Hollywood Presbyterian (where they discovered the tumors), the cost of surgery, spinal rehab and
follow-up visits. The cost of the surgery if done at Cedars-Sinai was estimated to be between
$300,000.00 and $400,000.00 for just the surgery—it is not a simple operation.
Amazing People & Good Doctor!
We have been blessed by knowing amazing people who worked tirelessly to help Julie get the care she needs. The amount of help has been truly overwhelming! Long story short, through these amazing
people we gained the alliance of a very accomplished, top-knotch surgeon who on his own accord
managed to get the cost of surgery down to $32,000.00
When is The Surgery?
The surgery was done on Tuesday, May 7th and from all indications was a success! We have already
seen movement in her left leg that has been missing for over a year. The initial rehab, in the hospital
started on May 8th and will continue for the next 3-4 weeks at another facility. Donations are still
needed!
