Lift Lance Toone

Hi, my name is Kori Dahl and I'm fundraising for my mom and dad, Lance and Terri Toone. After Lance’s accident in late November (story below) so many people reached out to us offering prayers, acts of service, and financial help. At the time it was unclear what the future held for my dad, so we simply asked for prayers. Those have been felt in a big way. So many miracles have followed and we are certain the Lord’s hand has been guiding us, the doctors, and others around us. As we now have more clarity about the future for Lance, at least in the near term, it’s become apparent that we will need more than prayers to help get us through the coming months and possibly years. Insurance will cover most of the hospital care, however, when he gets home there are a lot of needs that insurance will not cover. Lance will need an electric wheelchair, a handicap-accessible van, a shower chair, home health care, and other needs. In the long term, we may need to remodel my mom and dad's home to install lifts, widen doors, remodel a bathroom, and other things to make the home more handicap accessible. We are setting this up to ask for whatever you are able to give, to help us get the things he will need to work toward returning to a more normal life. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers from all our family and friends through all of this. Any help you could give, even if it's just sharing this, would be deeply appreciated.
Two days after Thanksgiving, being the gentleman that he is, my dad was out scraping the windshields so that he and my mom could go shopping. That’s their thing. They love to spend time together, even if it’s just shopping. Dad took a fall on the ice while he was scraping the windows. When he came to, he couldn’t remember anything and couldn’t move anything. By the time dad got to the ICU, after multiple tests and scans, he could move everything but his hands. This worried the doctors. They monitored dad for a few days but there was no change. Just a ton of pain in his hands and no mobility in them. Due to dad’s existing spondylitis, dad’s neck was covered in huge bone spurs. With dad’s neck the way it was, if dad had fallen any differently it would have killed him. Doctors decided to keep dad in the ICU and monitor the bleed on his brain and his hands. The bleed stopped but nothing changed with his hands. So they decided to do surgery on the front part of dad’s neck. Dad was in surgery for 6 hours and it went well. In the recovery room he could move everything except for his hands but that was to be expected. The unexpected happened a few hours later when dad couldn’t feel anything chest down. Doctors rushed him into emergency surgery on the back of dad’s neck but there hasn’t been a lot of change. At the beginning of December, they transported my dad to the University of Utah to start all sorts of therapy. Dad has had some victories. He can move his feet. He can move his arms. But he’s also had many hurdles to face. They’ve had a hard time with his oxygen and getting his breathing under control. Dad’s finally able to eat soft foods. They’re still trying to stabilize his blood pressure. And he still can’t feel most everything chest down and his hands. Spine injuries differ from person to person and it’s hard to say what kind of recovery anyone will have from them. Dad could eventually gain mobility but he could also be paralyzed for life, Doctors just don’t know.
We have felt all of your love and prayers. Every kind word or thought has helped and encouraged us. We know that the Lord is mindful of our family, especially dad. We know that we will see miracles, we already have. Thank you! We truly appreciate all of you!
