Lift Them with Love: Restore Dignity at Casa Hogar La Paz

Donation protected
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

With humility and faith, I write to you as a son, a fellow believer, and a grateful witness to the quiet holiness lived out each day at Casa Hogar La Paz—a sacred refuge for the elderly poor in Bosque del Lago, Mexico City.

For over a decade, my father, Don Laureano, has been one of the many souls blessed to receive care in this home. It is not just a place of rest, but a house of God—sustained by the tireless love of the Bernardine Missionary Sisters of the Divine Savior. These consecrated women serve with joy, patience, and prayer. Their mission is deeply Marian and profoundly Eucharistic: to accompany our elders in the final chapters of life, offering not only physical care but the consolation of Christ’s presence.

Here live nearly 40 elderly residents, many of whom suffer from dementia, Parkinson’s, diabetes, or other chronic conditions. Some have been abandoned. Yet none are forgotten. Within these walls, the dignity of each life is honored. Each person is seen as a beloved child of God, created in His image, journeying toward eternal life.

“Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” —Matthew 25:40

But the Cross they carry is heavy. The building is in serious disrepair. The elevator—once essential for moving residents in wheelchairs—has broken down, forcing Sisters to carry the elderly up and down 18 stairs just to reach the chapel or return to their rooms. Even the parish priest has carried residents on his back. The reclining chairs are torn. The kitchen lacks proper tools. There is no emergency medical equipment. And yet, faith remains. Hope remains.

With this campaign, we humbly ask you to join us in an act of mercy:

(1) A new elevator, to bring residents safely to Holy Mass and back to their rooms with dignity
(2) 20 reclining chairs, to offer comfort to tired bodies and fragile frames
(3) An industrial kitchen system, so the Sisters can cook healthy meals with greater ease
(4) Basic medical equipment, including oxygen tanks, a defibrillator, and nursing garments
(5) Chapel electrical and seating updates, to support sacred worship and prayerful rest

These are not luxuries—they are works of mercy. Through your generosity, this house of peace will once again reflect the beauty of the Gospel it lives out every day.

Every gift matters. Every soul counts.

All donations will be managed through a transparent and accountable process, ensuring that every dollar serves the elderly and sustains the mission of the Sisters. This is holy ground. Nothing will be wasted.

I especially appeal to our Catholic family in Texas and across the United States: those who have been blessed with abundance—spiritual and material. This is your invitation to love boldly, to give generously, and to honor our elders, as the Lord commands us.

Let us be instruments of Divine Mercy. Let us remind these men and women that they are not forgotten—that they are seen, cherished, and loved.

Thank you, and may Our Lady of Guadalupe intercede for you always.

In Christ and in gratitude,

José Ignacio Sordo Galarza
