Bringing Solar Power to a Rural School in Northern Lebanon
118km away from Beirut, this underprivileged community is still recovering from the countless crises Lebanon has been grappling with over the last few years. Now with more than 700 kids and 41 teachers, this rural school in northern Lebanon is struggling to keep the lights on, with the national utility company officially in financial default. The students are left with a school lacking the basic resources to operate, from water to electricity. While humanity is striving in the golden age of technology and artificial intelligence, these kids are deprived of their right to access knowledge and hone their skills.
Your donation will contribute to installing solar panels and upgrading the school’s electrical system, giving underprivileged kids access to electricity and water. This project will empower students and future generations to access essential education and technological tools.
Project Breakdown
This year, the school has prioritized the need for a reliable energy solution to support its community.
The plan includes the following:
Installing Solar Power: A sustainable energy source to power the water well, the classrooms, the computer lab, and other school facilities.
Upgrading the Electrical System: Upgrading the lighting fixtures.
The estimated cost for the material used for the project is $9,577, which will cover the solar panels, fixtures, electrical cables, steel structure, and consumables. By contributing to this initiative, you’ll help students thrive in a modern learning environment.
Building on Success
Last summer, we volunteered to help build the school’s first-ever computer lab, working closely with the local community to create a space that opens doors to new educational opportunities. We received exceptional support from GE Healthcare and the Rotary Club.
The lab has the potential to be life-changing, but the lack of consistent electricity has limited its usage. That’s why we’re returning this year with a mission to build on that success, ensuring that the computer lab can operate reliably and empower students to develop critical digital skills.
Who Are We?
We are a group of high school students who are passionate about making a difference. This summer, we’re partnering with the Association Libanaise Francophone des Sciences Techniques (ALF) to implement a sustainable energy solution for a public school in northern Lebanon. ALF is a nonprofit organization that focuses on promoting STEM and technology in rural areas and among underprivileged communities. Together, with your support, we can bring lasting change to this school in northern Lebanon.
Why Your Support Matters
Your donation will help:
Bring sustainable, reliable solar power to the school.
Secure running water for all students and faculty.
Upgrade the electrical system for safe, long-term use.
Provide students with consistent access to digital tools and resources.
By supporting this project, you’re empowering a generation of students with the tools they need to succeed and create a brighter future for this rural community.
