LILIANA’S ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA (AML) JOURNEY
Donation protected
My name is Genaro Ornelas. I’m fundraising for my friend Liliana Morgan Ramirez. She is 42 years old and was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) at the beginning of August 2022. She is caring loving, and has a big heart and loves to help others. She is a single mother of 2 teenage kids, continuously giving back to all.
With this diagnosis, she must undergo chemotherapy and require a stem cell transplant. She will be hospitalized many times throughout this journey. She can no longer work due to her disease progress and associated symptoms. Contributions will go toward medical bills and food for the family. It will be truly appreciated if you can give back or pay it forward to support Liliana on her AML journey. Anything we can do means so much, and Liliana can focus on her main goal: Defeat cancer and get back home!
I asked Liliana to share her story and where the journey began. Thank you for taking the time to read Lilian’s story. She expresses gratitude daily for the support provided thus far.
Liliana’s Story: This all started with me feeling incredibly sick. I had difficulties breathing and walking short distances. I visited my doctor complaining of sciatic pain, numbness in my left toe and pain in my lower abdomen. The doctor was suspicious something serious was happening. The initial blood test showed severe anemia and deficient platelets. By the next day, I started to experience painful cramps and intense pain in my rib cage. I saw several specialists, including my current hematologist. After lots of blood draws and multiple laboratories analysis later, we found out it was Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML-M6b). I was immediately rushed to the oncology unit for an urgent IV chemotherapy treatment. With this aggressive blood and bone marrow cancer diagnosis, treating me at home is not an option. I have excellent internal strength, a positive attitude and faith in my oncology team: We have three treatment goals:
1. Kill as many leukemia cells as possible in the blood with non-stop chemotherapy for seven sessions.
2. Stabilize my blood counts and continue chemotherapy, if needed, until there is no leukemia.
3. Stems cell transplant or bone marrow transplant: this is needed to offer me a new immune system and kill AML-M6b.
These three goals are attainable—I have the will, strength, and drive to fight this with all I have for myself and my kids. With the need to be hospitalized through a Stem Cell Transplant, I will be in the hospital long-term. The transplant will weaken my immune system as well as my body physically.
I got this and am determined to beat it with everything!
Donation and Support:
