Lily Funds for a Service Dog
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, & Neighbours,
Hello! My name is Lily and I am trying to raise money for a psychiatric service dog for myself. I am reaching out to you today because I have been struggling with severe mental health issues.
I have been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, and depression. My OCD has been extreme since I was a kid and results in schizophrenic tendencies. When my brother passed away I began my journey with a medical team to get me diagnosed and put on medication. Last year I hit a crisis point and ended up receiving emergency psychiatric care. I have a good treatment team now and am doing much better but there are still many things that affect me on a day-to-day basis. I often have severe panic attacks, and auditory hallucinations. My mental health effects the things I do on a day to day basis, making it a major challenge for me. Despite my best efforts to manage these conditions, doing things like trips to the grocery store alone, hanging out with friends, etc. often leads to failed plans/cancellation. I struggle to sleep and on bad days even struggle to walk room to room alone. Doing things like showering becomes a major challenge.
After talking to my treatment team, they recommended psychiatric service dogs. These amazing creatures could do so much for me as I deal with mental illness. A trained service dog will be able to respond to my moods and actions in a way that will help protect me. It will also provide me with comfort, companionship, and a feeling of safety and security that I have been lacking, as well as the emotional support and confidence that I need so that I can be more independent as a young adult. I would be able to take control of my life again.
I have been in consultation with a licensed dog trainer that specializes in training service dogs and was so very lucky to find an 8-month dog through a shelter that will be an excellent service dog once she gets the proper training. The training itself is approximately a two-year process and more expensive that I can afford on my own. I’ve dedicated all my savings to the adoption process and as much training as I can afford, my family is helping me as well but I’m still in need of approximately $14,500 to get her fully trained.
All funds would go towards paying for service dog training. Anything that you could contribute would mean the world to me.
Thank you so much,
Lily
